A dental implant is a restorative appliance used to replace missing teeth. A metallic structure, such as a titanium tooth root (similar to a tooth root), is placed into the jawbone underneath the gum line, over which the dentist plants a replacement tooth crown. This process is more effective than placing a dental bridge because, unlike an implant, the bridge will have to be anchored to another tooth. But, the implant would be fixed to the jawbone, making it more firm.
The term All-on-4 stands for ‘all’ teeth supported on ‘four’ implants. It is a surgical and prosthodontic procedure which is applicable for patients with broken or damaged teeth so that their oral functionality and appearance can be restored to normal. Such instances are mostly created by gum diseases or oral trauma. The implants will be placed on the jawbone by the dentist after careful diagnosis. These four implants support the fixed prosthesis, which consists of 10 to 14 teeth. In most cases, the entire procedure can be completed in a single visit to the dentist’s office.
Unlike traditional implants, All-on-4 dental implants are a far more hassle-free and foolproof method of restoring the lost teeth. The former is a procedure that takes up a long time. One has to make quite several visits to the dentist’s office and requires a prolonged healing period after the process is completed. Also, sinus augmentation and bone grafting are significant in this method in case there is jawbone deterioration.
But, All-on-4, as a procedure, is nothing of that. It is a low expense process that not only reduces the post-surgical healing period but also has proven to be more successful and efficient in its outcomes. It also inhibits bone atrophy on the one hand and allows the placing of prosthetic teeth in a day. Bone grafting would not be necessary in most cases. The result has proven to be permanent, with no significant drawbacks.
Teeth are one of the most important body parts. Missing a tooth or two can be quite disadvantageous in many ways. Not only does it tarnish your appearance and impression, but it also decreases your confidence and creates frequent issues with biting and chewing food. It also goes on to initiate premature aging. Without teeth, the jaw tends to shrink, and, in turn, the muscles begin to sag. This results in sunken cheeks, making one look older. Missing teeth are also responsible for many medical problems. They lead to the loosening of the remaining teeth from their sockets. Thus, it is essential to get them restored as fast as possible. Secondly, it becomes the cause of chronic headaches as unequal pressure would be applied to the teeth and the joints of the jaw (TMJ).
